SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF IRON USING
DEHYDROBENZOYLACETIC ACID AS A LIGAND

ABSTRACT: Dehydrobenzoylacetic acid with Fe (III) forms a stable metal - ligand complex in the mole ratio of I : 2. The results are quantitative by working in a medium of pH varying from 6.4 to 7.2. However the best results were achieved at pH 6.8. A linear relationship between concentration and absorbance was obtained and the wavelength of maximum absorbance was found to be 370 nm. The method was applied to the determination of commercial samples containing iron and the results were found to be within the limit of::t 5%, indicating the
suitability of the method for such determinations.
